As a Canadian; and one who works in federal law enforcement, I have been struggling to come to terms with the fact that Americans and America are no longer our friends and probably shouldn’t be considered allies any longer for what must be obvious reasons; The 51st state rhetoric, the justification that another nation’s resources could become the pretext for American hostility or aggression, all the outdated commentary about the Monroe Doctrine, the flagrant thumbing of rule of law and democratic values. We have resources (water, minerals, potash, etc) that your President covets. I have many American acquaintances and claim several who I met on this forum over the years as my online friends but Canadian values and interests no longer align with America.
Also, because of my career, I will say that these views and opinions are mine and do not reflect my employer or the Government of Canada - but are shared by many, if not most Canadians. We are angry, scared and defiant.
I hope we can all get through this but it may take generations before Canadians feel warmly towards the USA again.
