When I first saw that Dark Knight picture, I couldn't figure out what the things behind Batman were. The cape as a bat-shape seems so off to me it took a while for me to "get" the picture.

What????DKR issue 1 is his front?
Since I first saw it, I thought it was his back.
Wow.

Front, here. I just remember reading some note Stan or someone wrote one
time about having the hero’s back to the reader on a cover and not liking it.

Yeah, I think this "show the front, not the back of the protagonist on the cover" notion must have ...programmed me see the front of Batman all those years. Interesting chalenge though!

On the white Vision matter, it seemed kinda cool that in the initial issue at least the clothes on him were white-blue while his skin was white-yellow. I am not sure how long that lasted in the books...

I saw it as the front as well, but can now see how someone might have thought it was showing Batman from the back.

The colorless Vision really seems like one of those appearance changes that should stick.

Man, looking at TDKR 1 cover and squinting, it becomes one of those
optical illusions.
It’s the front, now it’s the back, now it’s the front.

For me, it was the angle/bend of the (if viewing from the back) right leg. It
was raised high and pointing away.
I can now see it pointing toward me, but my default is still pointing away

re: The Vision -- To me Vision was was always "on," always in costume (he was his costume). There was no downtime for Vision. I accepted their love because that was what the story told us. I remember reading an issue of the Avengers where people were outside Avenger's Mansion protesting the love between Vision and Scarlet Witch? Seemed weird.

To me Batman (in DKR) was always jumping away, into the action (like off a tall building), so I saw him from the back. I did see the original art and Mr. Miller saw it fom the front.

I thought it was a front view of Batman, but i may have
been brainwashed to assume that by the fact that most
covers featured frontal shots. But now i see both!
