@Paul: I totally agree. I think it's such a subtle touch to get eyes/expressions correct, that we are seeing the fruits of not having an inker retouch things with small distortions.

I love this take on Wolverine. We truly have no idea where this is going to lead, but it feels like a logical path. It reminds me in some ways of when Vision went white – completely new territory!

Yup. That page is in no way what I expected when Logan and Jean "meet again for the first time." And yet... it seems obvious!
ITEM: Mr. Byrne, you noted that Wolverine's senses are many times more sensitive than a normal human's. Does that count as a mutation as well? I know he's not in Nightcrawler's class (shucks, NOBODY is in Kurt's class!) But I could see a double mutation, maybe.
As to the master class nature of this story... I have suddenly taken a greater interest in the Beatles, and I've realized that their music is almostall delightful (I'm not so fond of "I Am the Walrus" or "Love Me Do"). But some of their songs really are lessons in songwriting, in addition to the commercial and entertainment aspects. That's how I feel about Elsewhen. The enjoyment factor is unsurpassable; but seeing the layouts, characterizations, action and reaction - this IS a course in "How Ta Do It Right, Yah?" It is a daily delight, in an era when I need something to be delightful. Thanks, Mr. Byrne!

…completely new territory!•• That hopefully builds on what has come before. Preferable to the "everything you know is a lie" approach that has become so popular.

JB: Have you ever stated what you think Logan's age is?

As telepaths, would the Professor and Jean have some idea of what's going on with Wolverine?

Reading Wolverine's mind at this point would be a lot like trying to read a bowl of rice pudding.

JB: Have you ever stated what you think Logan's age is?•• Depending on how we handle Marvel's sliding time scale, if this story had actually come out in 1980/81, he would have been about sixty. If the story takes place "now", closer to 100. Of course, Len Wein intended him to be 18 when he debuted in THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

18! That would imply the Weapon X experiments were performed on a minor!
Dastardly.

I think it's such a subtle touch to get eyes/expressions correct, that we are seeing the fruits of not having an inker retouch things with small distortions.•• One inker I was saddled with seemed to have a compulsion about moving the eyes. Decades ago, I read an article in which Will Eisner complimented Richard Corben by saying one of the things he particularly liked was the way Corben's characters made EYE CONTACT with each other. So that became something on which I concentrated. Add this particular inker, and suddenly characters who were supposed to be looking at each other were looking ANYWHERE else.

You mean, of course, looking ELSEWHEN. :)
Sorry. Bad joke.

That sound you hear is me finally exhaling after yesterday. I expected violence. Glad I was wrong!
