This story and art are just amazing. It would be so cool to see it in print with colors. Keeping fingers crossed!

I love the idea of the Surfer containing the energy release. Clearly that will afford the X-Men the chance to figure out a solution....which I cannot begin to imagine...which is awesome!!!
BTW JB, your Surfer evokes Kirby AND Buscema while being all Byrne. Does that make sense? I think so. You are pretty good at this!

Just mentally pinching myself (again) -- the Silver Surfer in the X-men with Dark Phoenix.
Any way you look at it, this just too good to be true.
Thank you.

Dang, this is just too much fun. If Mr. Byrne decided to keep doing this behind a paywall I'd have no problem with paying for it, but I suspect Marvel would have a big problem with it. As would DC if he mixes in their characters in a future story.
This forum is a lot like chatting between the gang at the comic shops back in the 80's and 90's (I won a bet with friends as to who was going to die in Alpha Flight 12 - they all thought I was nuts but I said his story was the only one that was pretty much done). Thanks to both Mr. Byrne and to everyone here who is being respectful and smart in the comments.

It just gets better and better - and then Silver Surfer shows up!!
This series is firing on all cylinders, and this issue is just amazing.

As would DC if he mixes in their characters in a future story. No plans for that! I do have the whisper of an idea for a "crossover" in the back of my head, but it would present no such problems.

I'm really glad that today is Thursday and not Friday, that would be a brutal last panel cliffhanger for an entire weekend.

I found the bit with Xavier asking Peter to put him down so he could concentrate...focus (?) perhaps....to be really interesting. Adds to the depth of the situation. Devils and details and stuff...

I love this page.
JB upheld Jean as a moral anchor for the chaotic and primal Phoenix, whereas it seems Chris Claremont thought Jean's base humanity corrupted the Phoenix.
I'm glad JB is showing us how his vision plays out, because it is a MUCH better story!
