It's sound strategy to hold some of your force in reserve, particularly when infiltrating an enemy position not knowing anything about the interior defenses or personnel. The D'Bari are tactically smart. And it doesn't help that Professor X is inside a psi-proof bunker, unable to know they're in trouble. New week, new challenges!

JB, I like how you've been using panels here on ELSEWHEN. (I started paying more attention to yours back when you did some neat things with them on COLD WAR and THE HIGH WAYS.)
Are there any artists whose use of non-standard panel layouts has directly influenced you? If so, and you don't mind sharing specifics, I'd be curious to know.

Frank Bellamy leads that pack, followed closely by Neal Adams. Throw in a pinch of Gil Kane and "Bob Kane".

Oh, that's a blazing curve ball over the outside part of the plate... and there's the hit! A long drive that's waaay out of here!
The expression on Kitty's face is so appropriate and yet so surprising. Amazing how much you can fit into one picture, Mr. Byrne. Too many others simply cannot draw with this degree of quality.
That is a LOT of stoned X-Men and attendant characters. On such a team action, I'd assume Xavier was monitoring Cyclops and get a solution to the situation. (The solution is simple; can't wait to see what you come up with Mr. Byrne!) But if my math is right, at the moment it's a whole crapload of D'Bari against Charles, Ororo, Peter, and possibly Kurt.
The others... how perfectly logical and reasonable!

Maybe Mr. Byrne should be doing a newspaper strip or writing soap operas given how it feels like every page ends in a cliffhanger. Great fun!

Please no! Let's not turn the X-men into a soap opera (again)!

I recently read how another notable comic book creator not only purposely writes so that readers are not required to turn the page to see the "payoff," but advises other writers to do the same. I am not knocking that creator or his approach because he has found success doing things his way. I just wonder what the advantage of intentionally not ending pages on cliffhangers might be.
