It's a lot easier to see this in retrospect, but it would have been far more stark if there'd been two panels, one at the top and one at the bottom.
THE PHOENIX HUNGERS...
...AND A WORLD DIES.
and yes, do it all in white. The yellow is NOT as bright as this art deserves.

I'm sorry this moment got stepped on so hard by Mr. Claremont over-scripting the page, JB.

Heh. Love the inside info here sometimes - that you'd only do a teamup with Claremont if you didn't need to see it. Had to check, and the very first page had 11 caption boxes on it plus word balloons. I can see why you'd not want to see it - of course, now I need to reread the whole thing. Guess some aspects of people never change.Funny - you were the first artist I remember thinking 'dang, he can write too' with the FF run. I was too young to notice with Kirby or others. Didn't know what the 'Marvel method' was back then of course.

I like the subtle use of "it" by Vuk when referring to Dark Phoenix. Not a person to the D'Bari, just a monster.

Chris D. - interesting note. Of course, Dark Phoenix is in a relatively homo sapiens form; one wonders if the D'Bari A) have the pronouns "he" and "she", and B) if the D'Bari refer to ALL homo sapiens as "it."

One of the D'Bari refers to Ashley as "she" in this very issue.

Others?!?
*sigh*
Although... This revoltin' development provides me with a glimmer of hope that things may yet be resolved in the way I had originally surmised.
