Like this latest page! So weird to think Kitty has never met the "real" Jean until now, no wonder she feels the way she does.
This is all so seamless, from that point Phoenix rose from Jamaica Bay and introduced herself to the X-Men, it fits perfect and not as a retcon but the final chapter of a 40 issue storyline. Bravo!!

Page 16, “Yes, we have encountered each other before”
Hmmmmm, fun stuff. Hard to believe this issue wraps up soon.

I like seeing Professor X get a chance to show his abilities.

The encounter from before - that was in an issue of Hidden Years, right? I should reread that at some point.

Yeah, and Kitty never really got to know the Phoenix "Jean", either, really. She met Phoenix briefly when she was on the run from The Hellfire Club, but she didn't take part in the greater battle against those villains. The events after that battle led immediately into the battle on the moon, so the Jean Grey Kitty has had the most exposure to in ELSEWHEN continuity is the lobotomized Phoenix version.

The encounter from before - that was in an issue of Hidden Years, right?•• I'm deliberately eschewing footnotes in ELSEWHEN. Given our format, here, if somebody has a question, they can just ASK! It's somewhat gratifying that most of you seem to know what's being referenced anyway!

JB: the comment Colossus made about Jean seeming more frail-- I hadn't picked up on any difference in how you were drawing the Phoenix-Jean compared with real Jean, so... is there something I'm missing?

I imagined Phoenix sort of buzzing with energy all the time. "Lobotomized" Phoenix less so, but still more than Marvel Girl.* ------------------------ * Which she may or may not call herself, when/if she returns to the team. Vague enough?

In a hypothetical Venn Diagram of X-Men 'versions' it's apparent that 'Elsewhen' and 'Hidden Years' have huge overlap; the latter being purposefully created to fully plug 'the gap' between #s 66 & 94 (or rather, GSX #1) in a 'Earth 616' context.
As 'Elsewhen' is an alternate take on events post #137 (or more accurately, a direct follow-on from 'Phoenix: The Untold Story') it makes perfect sense that references to Hidden Year scenes should occur - every bit as much as the team's original core title - making for a truly immersive reader experience.
I don' think I am in a minority when I say this series is 'well up there' in your catalogue of 'greatest works', JB.

I just realized, poor Misty Knight never knew the real Jean, either. She was sharing her flat with the Phoenix all that time, not the real Jean.
On anothernote, I'm curious to see how the revision of the shuttle scene plays out this time around!
