And I had no idea Mr. Byrne ranked Nightcrawler as his least favorite ANAD member.  Jesus.  You draw him like he's a part of your own personal Sistene Chapel.

May all artists render their least favorite with such acme.

Beast's powers were apparent since birth. That doesn't rule you out as a mutant.

Yup - just because Kurt's not his favorite character you couldn't tell by the way he's presented. Thats a sign of a great writer/artist.

Speaking of mutants with more than one X-tra power... The Sub-Mariner also has a variety of abilities, but aside from the ankle wings which give him the ability to fly, all of them fall under the same category.

Namor was also classified as a mutant after the (unspoken) rules had been more-or-less set in UNCANNY X-MEN. Can't really fault him for not playing by a definition that didn't exist when he was created.

It's Namor's wings that make him a mutant. The rest of his abilities are just part of his Atlantean heritage.

Cut and paste this for each page.

Is Nightcrawler, in fact, NOT a mutant after all?

••

There are a number of problems lurking behind that question. Nightcrawler's over-abundance of powers is one, but Chris' habit of getting "loose" within the definition of mutant is another--especially once other writers started using the term to save themselves the effort of actually coming up with a decent origin for a character.

(That latter problem was inspired by the success of the X-Books. If mutants sell, let's make everybody mutants!)

False equivalency.
