I picked up the Dark Phoenix chess piece, the only one of that set I have bought. Been so long since I acquired one of these, I was surprised by the weight. I guess I was still expecting a pound and a half of lead!

I was also surprised by the degree to which my art was used in the magazine. I suppose that's sort of unavoidable, but I was still surprised. Anyone know who did the cover? Sorta looks like me, but it's not ---- is it?

It looks like Byrne art; most of the time, Eaglemoss uses clipped art from the archives.

If you mean this:

That's Phil Jimenez...as you can see on this piece, he does credit "After Byrne (sort of)"

For a long time I've thought of his work as "What if John Byrne and George Perez mated?"

Phil does a really nice, on model (!!) Alpha Flight, amongst others.  I'm definitely a fan.

Eaglemoss have just released the first issue of the Marvel Movie Collection. Larger scale than the Figurine collection and I guess similar scale to the chess pieces.

Like JB I was really surprised by the lack of weight to this. It's about the size of the Galactus or Watcher figure from the Figurine collection but about a third of the weight - if that. That Watcher figure could cause a homicide if you hit someone over the head with it. This one would just bounce off.

Forgot to say, the new figure got one thing right with regards to the movies - Iron Man has his mask in his hands rather than on his head. Cap doesn't even have a mask!

I do like the Spider-Man. It'd look good next to that original Batman subscriber release from a few years back.
