This issue was my introduction to Neal Adams. I remember my brother getting it because he loved Batman.

Ah, love those pages. Remember when Batman was an ordinary human who could actually get cold-cocked by a cheap thug with a blackjack sometimes?

That's my favourite Batman story too. I decided a few months ago that I had to have a copy of the original issue, despite having the story in numerous reprints. I got one for $32 on eBay, although a lot of that was postage. It's the most I've ever paid for a standard 32 page comic, but it was worth it.
Damn, that shot of Batman sprinting looks good in monochrome! Now I have a new grail - to find a b/w reprint of the story. I wish DC would jump their Superman & Batman Showcase editions ahead to the Seventies.

I've never read this story, unfortunately. It's time perhaps to do some research!

John Caliber, if you can find it, get the trade "The Greatest Joker Stories ever
told". It's very much worth it.

Has anyone ever seen a blackjack? Are they still around? These stories always made me wonder...

A friend of mine has one. It was his father's. The dad was a policeman "back in the day." After seeing one in person, I know I'd never wanna get hit by one!

I just re-read this story a couple of weeks ago and I've never noticed that Batman's utility belt disappears.
Oh, well, this is a fantastic story -- easily one of my favorite Batman stories ever.

Is it just me, or is that panel of Batman running the single greatest drawing of Batman ever?
