I couldn't remember the JB FF double page splashes, but I could remember the Liefeld by way of Perez splash.

I hadn't read the Titans run at that point in my life, only picked up on the Liefeld 'homages' because of the Comic Buyer's Guide articles. He used a lot of JB poses!

He actually copied the page/sequence leading up to that
splash as well.

Yeah, Perez inking himself ....
I thought he was a good artist, exceptional really.
But when that issue hit the stands, the art became
something else.

I still remember my jaw hitting the floor when I saw this double page splash by Neal Adams in Superman vs Muhammad Ali.

At the risk of defending Liefeld, I don’t think we can really say he copied that spread from George. Bunch of characters charging right to left. Not a whole lot of ways to portray that. The individual poses don’t seem copied.

BTW - The September 1940 Marvel Mystery Comics #11 is credited as having the first ever double page splash (in a Ka-Zar story), but I am unable to find an image. If someone can access that comic, please share an image!
