well it ended up being a bargin the computer i ended up with i saw for 1600 so i got a good deal plus it is more powerful than my laptop was also the cd/dvd burner is embedded in the tower so i don't need to use my old external one and ithas something called lightscribe i can put images onto the disc which is cool plus i went from pentium 3 to 4 so it is cool

Vlad and everyone -
1. When scanning, what can you do when the blacks that you lay down
aren't "solid" as in, if you use a Sharpie and it leaves "streaks" in
the black? When I scan this, it continues to show up in the scan.
2. You mentioned in another post "Once I have the layer I can bring it
into any document and paint it after locking the transparent
pixels." How and why do you do this?

Just click on this icon (see pic) once you do all the trasparent pixels are
locked and any color you add will effect only the pixels that have
information already.
As far as scanning, you can control the brightness and contrast in the
scanning software (they vary from application to application,) but don't
usually bother. I can do a much better job in Photoshop after the scan.
What I usually use is Levels

Matt set for a high resolution when you scan the picture and just do as Vlad suggested

I've had luck with my scanning, and I love inking in SHARPIE, by just scanning the artwork as "Black and While Line Art" and that 99.9999% of the time requires NO adjustment.
I did a job a few years back inking with my beloved brush, and my blacks are NEVER solid when I ink with a brush, the become more of a wash (especially in the bigger areas) and when I scanned as "BLACK AND WHITE LINE ART" they became SOLID blacks.
This, however, may be a function of my scanner that other ones do not have. Not sure. Hope it helps.

Matthew - thanks for the great input. (feel like I'm talking
to myself...)
I've tried this before with kinda bad results. It seemed that some of the
more delicate hatching/crosshatching would loose some of its finer
qualities. I read (kinda alluded to it up thread) a post by Vlad that
talked about how to get a clean blackline into Photoshop, so that's helped a
bunch.
Reading your post makes me think that I just might need to experiment a bit
more with the settings. Between this and the settings in Photoshop I
think I can fine tune it now.

I scan at a HIGH resolution, which may help and I think that Vlad has already suggested.
