Funny you should ask...sigh...no, not working on a relaunch but I did some character redesigns on commission.  Glad that you liked them.

Re the JB-referenced headshot...I sketched that while warming up, as I was looking at some of his scanned pencils.  I wondered if anyone would catch that!

Anthony, no worries at all.  I think I understand what you're saying here, but just to clarify, I refer to John's stuflf all of the time for different reasons.  Whatever discussions I've had with him here on non-art related subjects notwithstanding, my opinion of his work has never changed.  As I was fortunate enough to tell him in person, he was my greatest inluence as a cartoonist while I was growing up and I still will put on my "JB" hat when working out some illusrative problem.  That doodle isn't part of any job, it was just a warm-up sketch...so, no swiping there.  But to the point, for anyone aspiring to improve as an artist...it is a good exercise to refer to another artist's work as a learning method.  Sort of like playing along with a record, if you're learning how to play an instrument.  It teaches you landmarks, form, rendering.  You absorb those lessons and it all becomes part of your method for achieving results when you're doing something on your own. 

Creating an uncredited copy of someone else's work and owning it as your own, i.e. swiping, should never be encouraged (although it is done all of the time in commercial illustration, but that's another discussion altogether).
