"Man! Just the subtle detail of the weeds growing through the tracks - a lot of artists wouldn't think of that..."
And is that a lonely aluminum can I spy lying there between the rails as well? Outstanding!

Flashback: When I was working on Superman, one of the editors at DC noted that I was the first ever to put garbage in the streets of Metropolis!

ummm, I remember distinctly a throw-away gag, roughly Superman #295 so in the mid-70s, where in the background there is a garbage can on the sidewalk that is nearly empty but surrounded by garbage. There might have even been a sign on the can saying "Don't Litter" or some such.
But having said that, I think that the garbage in the streets was *only* in that panel *as* a gag.

Love it. In two pages we get lessons in perspective, story telling, body language, set dressing, panel design for text placement... the art education just keeps on coming in this site. Thanks for that, chief.

Gorgeous stuff JB. The train station reminds me of a lot of suburban stations here in 'Old' England which I guess isn't suprising. :)

A peek at a little first draft lettering. . . Kitty's next line is "He just doesn't know it, yet!"

Scenes like this one make the superheroics more amazing.
Someone years ago commented that a certain popular artist had a habit of drawing heroes and villains in tights bounding around in metal bunkers. That's definitely not my kind of book!

Something I love about Prof. X in that page is that he looks youthful. Not 20, but... not Patrick Stewart either!

One writer I know tells of working with a particular artist, back in the day, who said he wanted more “soda shop” scenes, “like Claremont and Byrne used to do.” So such a scene was dutifully included in the next plot. When the art came in, the scene had been replaced with “bounding around in metal bunkers.” The writer asked why the “soda shop” scene had been taken out and the response was “those kinds of pages don’t sell!”
