1. I don't think it's too goofy, but I can't say I like the practice. It's very close to being too goofy -- I feel a lot of examples get away with it by the skin of the creator's teeth
2. I quite like Victor Fries.

I love seeing a few of them around!

Some “close, but then again” variations come to mind: Ben Grimm and
Johnny Storm. Apt regarding aspects of their post Cosmic Ray
predicaments.

Seriously? A comical cartoon character? Want to add Little Lotta? How about Mickey Mouse?

Today I thought about Felicia Hardy. A feline real mane and a feline code name. But though the name Felicia is close to "feline" it is actually from the base "felix" meaning lucky. Which I also find interesting since black cats are supposed to be unlucky!

Walter Langowski translates to Commander of the Water
Meadow.
Always thought that was cool.

I love it, it's part of the fun of comics.

Watched the Transformers movie BUMBLEBEE the other night. Cringed when the bad guys, posing as good guys, introduced themselves as Decepticons. Another Sinestro scenario?

But then the filmmakers actually addressed this later in the movie.

I'm not bothered by the practice.

I was particularly amused by "Mark Ivey/Mark IV".

What about Kite Man? Rather apt I'd say.
