Have you ever done a Comic Shop Crawl?
I didn't really know this until recently, but the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex where I live appears to have more Comic Book Shops than any other Metropolitan Area in the country. More than Chicago, Orlando, LA, or even NYC.
Anyway, I had invited my fellow JB fans to town so we could do our version of a crawl, hitting up the local shops all week leading up to the latest Dallas Fan Expo at the end of that week.
It was a blast! Several of our friends from out of town and farther stayed here at my house and each day you never knew what you were going to find. Over the course of four days, we made it to thirteen different shops. Those of us that had checklists of what they were looking for either found them at the shops or at the dealers room at the Fan Expo.
The shops were varied in backstock, some carrying little to no books from our heyday, then there were the ones catering to us that had rows and rows of longboxes.
At the Fan Expo, we never went to see a single celebrity from TV or Film. We stayed mainly in the dealers room.
It was a lot of fun. We had two people come from San Diego and two come from Las Vegas. Then our last guest came from Japan, where he has lived for the last 19 years, though he is originally from the UK. He had never been to the US before, but didn't care to see the Landmarks in DFW. He was more interested in the Comic book shops and trying out the wonderful food at Bucc-ees.
We did drive through Dealy Plaza as we were leaving the con, so I did point out the Book Depository, the Grassy Knoll and the "X" that sometimes marks the spot.
Have any of you done such a thing? I have some friends in Florida that do it each year and some in New York that get together every so often. It just sounded like fun.
It was.
