But it’s always been so reliable!!

(I’ve known about this for decades. How is it “news” now?)

I laughed at "Who do you think you are?"

How can the answer be anything other than: "Me."

A gal pal recently told me she’s taking up astrology because she wants to understand the larger truths.

What’s the emoticon for screaming into the void?

I'd have said, "while you're at it, give astronomy a whirl.  Blow your mind."

It's hard to break off a belief system like that, even if it's just a low level hobby. You're shedding yourself of the core human belief that you're at the center of existence, and the belief you're trading it in for is that you do not matter at all.

Or as Elle Cordova dubbed it, a fortune cookie with lore.

I don't want to knock it too much, as belief in intangible, mostly nonsensical things is pretty much the cornerstone of all civilization and can more than frequently be a benign good and very occasionally result in expressions of real beauty. Shit only gets out of hand when following the guidance of the nonsensical thing is insisted upon when overwhelming evidence shows that a) the nonsensical thing is at odds with empirical reality b) following its guidance could lead to serious harm.

Of course, that's most of human history right there. It's Patton Oswalt's Sky Cake vs. Sky Pie.
