What an ending! It's amazing to see these characters, and
while I went in with a good dose of nostalgia, that last
page is a reminder that we are in new territory here.

One splendid aspect of this experience is the attention to detail in the backgrounds of each panel. Somewhere along the line in the late 80s or early 90s artists stopped bothering to include the narrative context of a background in their panels. Sure, they could draw a nice close up or action shot - but without the narrative context, it felt hollow.

These 'issues' are liberally strewn with fabulous backgrounds, providing a consistency of storytelling context that has largely left the industry. Modern artists could learn a lot from this superb sequential storytelling. Clearly it is a labour of love.

Very much looking forward to the story of Jean/Phoenix unfolding for us.

And I have to say that I think JB is doing a masterful job at walking the line of picking up where we "left off" while branching off into new territory without going too far off into left field to drive home the point that this is different. It takes a Master storyteller to pull that off. Luckily, we have one!

Thanks again for giving this to us, JB. It is much appreciated.

I know I've said it before, but I'm loving your layouts on this, JB. Some of the best work of your career here.

Couldn't see any images from the Fantastic Four story referenced:

I know I'm late in replying, as I didn't start reading it before now. But I noticed someone mentioned the issue of Fantastic Four the characters came from in an earlier post (issue 203), but couldn't remember which. So I found an image of it.

Also, I like that we see a return to the old school mutants, or in this case some sort of "half-mutant", instead of defining mutants as someone being born with "the X-gene".

Found a site with people showing samples of how they were inking and coloring ELSEWHEN pages.

One such post struck me as odd, as the poster indicated in his comments that he wasn't sure how to color the monster on the splash page. Odd, because I didn't think of the monster wearing anything other than Storm's normal hues.

...constant bane...

**

Rereading this thread for funzies, I came across Matt Hawes using this phrase back in 2019.

Suddenly occurs to me that Constance Bane would be a cool gothic character name.
