With Carla's son I am taking advantage of something of which I do not really approve! When Stan and Jack introduced us to the X-Men, it was soon established that mutant powers kicked in around puberty. (Some people get acne, some get wings!) That was largely forgotten over the years, and so I decided I might as well lean into it, since it works within my story.

ITEM: Yup, damned if Neal didn't give 'em lips! I'll have to go back and reread that series to verify (translation: what, like I NEED a reason to reread Neal Adams books? It's like rereading John Byrne books... which I'm also in the middle of these days. It's gonna be a good week, 'tater!)

ITEM: It looked like Spragg to me. Great protagonist in any case.

ITEM: Mr. Byrne: "Ideally, everything should get better over time, right?" I suppose it depends on the context. Someone's talent should surely get better. On the other hand, an existing masterpiece (FF 25-26, FF 48-50, X-Men 130 - 137 et. al.) seem impossible to get better.

ITEM: Fascinating that there is some force that can take out a sentinel with such ease. I wonder if the cure is worse than the threat... let's find out tomorrow, kids!

Even an "existing masterpiece" can improve with age, as the viewer matures and his/her sensibilities become more finely tuned.

On Spragg...

The segue in Colossus' last word balloon is artistry itself. JB, how much consideration do you give to balloon placement as you're doing the pencil layouts? Does the art dictate the balloon placement, or do you kind of *see* the balloons in your head as you're doing the pencils?

JB -I can tell you quite honestly, without the intent to stroke your ego (really), that is how I feel about the phoenix saga from before AND now with this elsewhen project: each read I catch something new, something I didn't see the first time...

I haven't reread your FF or Superman runs, but I expect I'd see it there too..

I love that the little boy's face looks Latino. JB, you do a great job of capturing the facial characteristics of various ethnicities and don't depend on the colorist to let us know what color their skin would be!

I’m one of the Whitest guys on the planet, so I take it as a great compliment when people tell me I am successfully portraying other races and ethnicities. So, thanks!

I know Colossus' transformation is really the "money shot" on page 11, but I just cannot stop staring at the panel of Logan getting out of the truck.

It's just so friggin' perfect.

The best part of it is the drapery of the pants leg and jacket. Phenomenal.
