Thinking of those All New, All Different X-Men I am having a sad flashback. I am remembering the time when writers and artists would cheerfully create new characters, without hesitation, even tho they knew the Companies would own them.It was a time when working in comics wasn't about the money. It was about the love of comics we all felt, and adding our own characters to Marvel's catalog was a thrill!

I recall reading an interview years ago where this was mentioned, and the artist in question.

Whew, I'm glad the cavalry arrived, I didn't want to see what Magneto had cooked up for Wolverine... killer artwork JB!

Whew, indeed! I'm glad Cyclops arrived in time to save the day! I'm not sure if it's smart of Colossus to be in his armored form though. And I know who that is walking in on the action...

Every now and again in the 60s (maybe the 70s), Marvel titles might have a little different take on the title of the books - "The Power of Iron Man" or some such.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this page is "The Power of Cyclops!". I have liked Cyclops for so long, and thought he easily deserved his own title. And this single page shows why. This issue of your book is absolutely breathtaking - 'most everything I'd want to see in an issue of X-Men! Please continue to astound me!

(Reminded of the five minutes I was scripting UNCANNY X-MEN, with Jim Lee as plotter/penciler. The moment he declared he had put Wolverine back in the blue and yellow suit. Apparently he'd forgotten who designed the brown one.)

I can't really explain why, but this has been my favorite issue so far.

Speaking of the "power of Cyclops",
1. Was there ever a time when you considered drawing Cyclops in "full power mode", where his whole head is white and glow-y (as in X-Men #1...and I think it was repeated by Dave in #104 against Magneto)
2. I just realized that if the original plan to split up the team and focus on individuals had happened after 137, it would've been like those "split team" issues back in the 60's. Was that a conscious decision by you guys back in the day?

Richard P. - Walt Simonson did the same with Cyclops near the end of X-Men/Teen Titans, and that image came immediately to my mind when you described it.

Eric- Thanks! I had forgotten that one!
It's kinda strange that a power that the Cyclops showed in his very first appearance, exemplifying how super powerful his optic blasts are, only appeared 3 times in his history.

This keeps getting better and better.
Glad it's not the weekend so I only have one day to speculate who that is in the shadows.
