For those who care about such things, here's the DAN DARE reference Bill correctly identified:

Once again, I was wrong. I thought for sure that it would be Gladiator hurdling towards Earth that would cause the destruction of the Astronomy One.

By the way, so much is happening in these pages since Elsewhen #1!

Nowadays in a X-Men comics, it would take 30 issues and at least a relaunch.
