So you stopped reading right before the first appearance of Alpha Flight, the Proteus Saga, and that whole deal with the Hellfire Club and Dark Phoenix? Dang, buddy, that's poor timing! Did you pick it back up at some point?

I think Nathan means he skipped the Xavier issue, not that he stopped there.

I read it the way Sean did originally, but reading it again, I think Nathan means, when he was completing his run by JB, that was the last one he procured.
I think Nathan is the same age as me, and JB's run on UXM ended before I was 6 years old. I'm therefore presuming Nathan did as I did, and picked them up as back issues.
Tim made a really good point: Wolverine works best when Cyclops is around.

By the way, one of the things I love the most about these two pages (although they're just an example of JB's overall work) is the difference in body language between the characters- the way they each sit in chairs, the way they all ran to the plane. Distinctly different posture and attitude.
Wonderful acting!

Jim Salicrup paid me one of my favorite compliments when he said my characters even stand around in character. So, of course, I’ve spend all the years since trying to live up to it.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. My bad.
Peter has it right, I picked up the issues after they came out (I found JB in the early days of his FF run) — and the Prof X issue was one of the last ones I bought. I was first introduced to his X-Men run through that Dark Phoenix TPB that came out in the 80’s.
I did skip Alpha Flight 6 — but I bought the rest off the spinner rack. I ended up getting it eventually.
It’s hard to imagine making those kinds of decisions now... but I really didn’t have much money at the time.

It's nice to see the X-Men interacting with the rest of the Marvel universe, something that was killed off around the time of the first Secret Wars series.

As X-Men popularity grew, Chris quickly grew tired of the characters (especially Wolverine) being scooped up by anyone and everyone for appearances in other titles. Titles on which he was given no input. His solution was to extract the characters from any interaction with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Can’t say I blame him.
