There is some abused part of my brain that keeps piping up with Claremontisms.••• I find myself fighting against them. Writing these characters in these situations, I have to be careful not to fall into familiar rhythms. So far I think I’ve been successful. (I dodged one on Jean’s page, avoiding a “They were wrong” by adding a few words.)

"I’ve established that the Avengers and the X-Men consult with each other. Why WOULD’NT Simon know who Wolverine was?"

That's true, you did. Funny enough, I'd chalk my forgetfulness to falling into Claremontisms, also. Over time, he established a more adversarial relationship between the FF/Avengers and the X-Men.

Love the acknowledged that Wolverine's healing ability has its limits. This is how I remember it during your original run, JB. Wolverine heals more quickly and fully than a normal human, but shouldn't be able to grow a new head seconds after it has been lobbed off.

Heck, the Beast and Wonder Man were best pals during this era, too, so surely Beast spoke about his other pals in the X-Men with Simon from time to time?

I bet Wolverine wished he wore his costume made of unstable molecules that day. :-)

As for the unstable molecules, in "Giant-Size X-Men" #1, Professor Xavier tells the team their new outfits are made of unstable molecules. That noted, it seems to me that unstable molecules allowed the outfits to adapt to some of the properties of a superhero's powers, but not that the outfits still couldn't be destroyed. There have been instances over the years from various Marvel heroes who had clothing that was supposed to be made of unstable molecules, yet that clothing still received some damage on certain occasions.

Storm, Colossus and Thunderbird get new outfits in GSXM 1, but Banshee, Nightcrawler and Wolverine continue with the costumes they already have. (Cyclops’ costume was probably unstable molecules.)It could be argued that the new costume I gave Logan was made from unstable molecules, but, as noted, that would not necessarily make it fire proof.

Lilandra Phoenix?
Going back a couple of pages to the Scarlet Witch and her reality-warping powers... I don't think I've ever truly understood her powers.

Going back a couple of pages to the Scarlet Witch and her reality-warping powers... I don't think I've ever truly understood her powers.•• When Wanda was first brought into the picture, her power was very simple: she pointed at someone (sometimes accidentally) and that person had "bad luck". This could mean a gun jamming, or a water main bursting (ahem!) or any kind of catastrophe, large or small. Of course, something that nebulous could not stand long against the influx of fans-turned-pro. It needed to be EXPLAINED. Thus came the idea that what Wanda did was "alter probabilities". The likelihood of that gun jamming is 10,000 to one. A wave of Wanda's hand, and it becomes one to one. When I came to work with her in AWC, I realized this "fix" had made things MUCH more complicated than simple "bad luck". To "alter probabilities" she would actually have to be able to reach back thru time, often a nearly infinite number of steps. That idea served as the basis for the story I was setting up when I was forced off AVENGERS WEST COAST.
