Yeah, they did a thing where Pyro heated Peter red hot then Avalanche dumped a liquid nitrogen tanker on him to catastrophic effect.

Loving the interplay between the different styles of characters - the high intellect guys, the bruisers, the old soldiers, the fliers - lovely bit of scripting across this whole project.

.....and just when you think things couldn't get any worse for the X-Men......

That's a great Phoenix effect, JB!

One of the best pic of the Phoenix i ever saw, maybe even the best ever, as i thought when i saw this page, but of course the emotion of seeing a seing a new great image may fool me, so i'm going with "one of the best".

Meanwhile, I found this on Google:

-------

…But there are some characters who became mutants after there [sic] birth.

Fantastic 4.

Daredevil.

Hulk.

Spiderman

Ms. Marvel.

Inhumans.

Deadpool

-------

NONE OF THOSE ARE MUTANTS!!!

Roy Thomas gave us a perfectly good term to describe the likes of them, non-mutant variants.

This is the SHAZAM effect. Fans who don't know any better call the characters by the wrong names/terms, and eventually the writers start calling them by the wrong names/terms. The mistakes become carved in stone.

Are we up to three nail-biting cliffhangers or four?  This issue is not for those with weak hearts.

Quick question (semi-related):

Was the printed cover to 138 ALWAYS the intended cover for 138 even after the changed ending of 137?

There is also a curious recent urge to link erverything that happened in the MU. It started with books like Earth X or this SHIELD book where you learn Howard Stark and Nathaniel Richards were buddies in a secret organisation... I almost fell asleep writing this...
With Apocalypse and Mr Sinister, the X-Men history began to look like X-Files...

So... mutants, Inhumans, mutates... everything is interconnected in some way now.

Almost better to not ink it at all and let a colorist only at it... (except for the Shi'ar ship) if only to preserve the effect of the pencils.

Good grief -Lilandra seems to have really messed things up!

I think page 18 qualifies as a money shot. I think everyone's brains are getting scrambled in the coming months.

Claremont can take a big mea culpa as far as muddying the waters on what constitutes a mutant.
