Just had an image come into my head of Bobby being solid ice, being shattered, dying, and reverting to his human form. Very EC!!

But that seems so “likely”. Gross...but likely.

JB, thanks for the answer.
It seems like a completely different power to transform his flesh to water, but only frozen water. Pulling moisture out of the air and converting it to ice forms is enough of an interesting power.

One of the interesting--and largely unexplored--aspects of Bobby's power is that Iceman would not be much use in a stealth situation. When he was a walking snowman, sure, but once he started coating himself with ice it would crack and reform every time he moved. He would crackle!

"What's that sound? It's like in Titanic, when the iceberg hit the... oh, geez, Bobby. We told you to stay with the Blackbird!""Surrender, mutants! The Sentinels are here!" "...dammit, Bobby."

About Storm's costume. Since I "returned" to the X-Men with ELSEWHEN, I have been struggling to make it work for me. Back in the Eighties, this was not a problem. The costume was very "disco", but it suited the period. But coming back, I am struck by how much this outfit looks like it was designed by a man.*Playing with alternative designs, I have tried to steer away from these "problems". Maybe I will succeed. ------------------ * Contextually, it was, of course. Charles Xavier. But that's not the point.

Storm's outfit is a classic of the era but it makes sense she would eventually update or modify, like someone might stop wearing bell bottom flared-trousers or platform shoes.
I definitely didn't care for the shiny ice Iceman... too easy (as a new reader) to mix up with the Silver Surfer... and anyway, the first time I saw him he was the snowy version in the Amazing Adventures reprint series and more specifically this Dave Cockrum house ad showing the old team and the new team...
