I think HIDDEN YEARS is very much in play- it’s published canon from a time period that precedes the ELSEWHEN pivot point, which I believe is the moment when Phoenix dies.

And for fans of your work, it’s part of the JB X-Men universe - it would make sense and be a lot of fun to connect it here.

There's an old saying: it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop. Colossus catching Kitty, even if he reverted to human form to do so, would not be much of an improvement on hitting the ground.

Her needing rescue from the fall didn't cross my mind
at first. So I pictured Colossus doing one of those
crater making jumps just to be on the ground with her.
But I see now that they don't know that, and
Nightcrawler was the only one who could be fast enough
to do anything about it.

Liked Colossus reaction on the jet though!

JB, according to the Marvel database, the Blackbird first appeared in 104. I don’t have the issue handy to verify, tho.

...104...

Nope, that's the Stratojet, described as "last of a set of two."

I'm beginning to think the Blackbird was just the Stratojet colored wrong, and somehow that became canon.

Looking at that issue now, I think you’re right, JB.

...

I think you're right.
The colorist may have read the copy and decided that was the color.

Also, love that latest page of HIDDEN DAYS!

It’s not an easy life for the Thing, or for mutants who can’t pass for human, like Nightcrawler.

Which reminds me...

Chris and Dave gave Kurt a borrowed SHIELD Image Generator, so he could walk around looking like Errol Flynn, among others.

Very quickly it turned into yet another "power" for Nightcrawler, and Shooter, wisely, called an indefinite moratorium on its use.

JB posted that he just realised that the X-Men don’t know Wolverine is Logan.

I’ve just realised that if this is before the published 139, THIS would be the introduction of Wolverine’s brown costume.

Yeah, I fudged a bit to get Wolverine into "my" costume. Since there was no actual "origin moment" for the change, I just figured it happened off camera.

I've been amusing myself imagining doing this as an ongoing series without repeating old stories, but still acknowledging that they happened. Like doing a scene of Wolverine and Nightcrawler coming back from Canada, with Kurt eager to tell everyone he's found out Logan's name.
