Continuing with the Falcon—and a warning to those who might be considering giving it a try. Like the star destroyer, this kit pays no heed to GRAVITY. I’ve actually decided not to build the underside!

I've always wanted a Transformers Shockwave. It doesn't light up like the Eighties edition, but I don't have that much money to set on fire and this one is more detailed and better in every other way. I'm pleased with this childish and expensive indulgence.

Rewatched THE LEGO MOVIE yesterday, and I am now struck by how much the Metal Beard character resembles the image above.

That Shockwave model is cool, but I didn't really have much affinity with the character as a child. Probably because no-one I knew had the actual toy. Looking back on it, I generally only bought Autobots. I think the Insecticon Shrapnel was the only Decepticon I ever had (my next door neighbour had Soundwave. It was cool!)

I had Shapnel too! I didn't really get into the car or jet toys (aside from Jetfire, which was based on Macross), but I liked the Insecticons and the Constructicons and the Dinobots. In retrospect they were the kind of concept creep that dooms franchises, but I dug how grotesque and abstract they were.

I fell into a little Transformers rabbit hole yesterday sparked by your post, searching the first and second generation toys, refreshing my memory. I had quite a few. Slag was the dinobot I had; one of my friends found the name amusing (in England, slag is a nasty name to call someone). The same friend used to find Skids amusing as well.
I did like the cars and jets. I had Skywarp (F-15 jet was cool, robot less impressive) and Sunstreaker (similar, the Lamborghini was cool, the robot and transformation not that satisfying). Smokescreen was probably my favourite car (a Nissan coupe, the transformation worked well, though the roof was joined by a thin piece of metal which eventually stress fractured.)
Optimus Prime was the undoubted king of my collection, though by the time I got him we were just starting to get to the threshold of being a bit old for toys and I think that was the last Transformer I ever got.

I want all of these. They also need to make Jackie Daytona, regular human bartender.
