This one was sold at Heritage for 7k in 2007. You'll find a jumbo size image
in their archives. Auction not related to JB.

Al,
You're welcome!
I can understand your frustration about Jerry's redrawings on the cover
since he deprived you from John's original pencils, but I have to admit
that I prefer the final look of the piece. Imho, his embellishing boosted
the pencils in his own style, and I love the mix of both styles. Ok, he
altered the original look, but you can still enjoy John's big picture like
composition, perspective, proportions and posture of the characters, etc,
and you can recognize John's trademark style from a mile away.
I agree with you about the coloring.
BTW, I wonder who took the decision to add drawing to the borders of
the sheet in order to reduce the image in the comic...

I want to see a penciller's art coming through in the inks, not another
penciller's idea of what that art should look like.
Ordway is a skilled penciller, but should only ever ink himself.

I understand your point and, in some cases, I was also bothered for some
inking too intrusive.
The first case that comes to my mind is Colleta's mess on Kirby. It's
curious how some people loved it, but when I could compare Kirby's
original pencils with the published work, I was infuriated. But, in other
hand, I loved Wood's overpowered inks in Sky Masters, or Sinnott's
embellishing in FF which it included some fixing.
When I was younger and I saw for first time Royer's inks on Kirby, which
it was very faithful to the original pencils, I felt that something was
missing because I loved Sinnott's embellishment on FF.
I support the idea of embellishing (including fixing) if the creative team is
well chosen, and sometimes magic can happen like in the cases that I
mentioned before.
About Ordway, I loved his FF run, and I think that I'll like this JLA run,
although I understand perfectly that you feel the opposite.
I also wanted to state that I support embellishment including fixing if the
penciler is warned about this and he agrees about it. I think that it's
wrong if the penciler learn about it through the printed comic.

AL -- I disagree AND agree.
I think a good inker does put their own talent and style into the inks while staying faithful to the integrity of the original pencils.
Ordway is just not the classic inker - he adds so much of his own strong style that it does distract from the original pencils --- BUT --- seeing two of the best artists in the buisness on the same page....that's awesome.
Arguable one of the best inkers to ever hold a brush, Joe Rubinstein --- I've seen his work be very very faithful to the original pencils (quite easy with a strong penciler like Byrne who has a true original line) -- but I've also seen Rube work that clearly has his own style over-powering the original pencils. I can also clearly see Rube in "faces" -- I know instantly when he's inked a page.
Now --- using an inker like Nelson....there's an example of an inker who clearly used the original pencils just to showcase his own style and ability to alter a page. I think Nelson's attention to detail was great -- but he has no business inking in the manner he did (over Byrne's ACTION pencils)
