Looking good Joe!

Here's my latest---trying to improve my inking skills by following a Gary Gianni (convention?) sketch that I think was associated with the book Hellboy into the Silent Sea

I'd like to try to follow one of JB's Elsewhen illustrations, but I'm afraid I'd mess it up in a blatantly poor fashion. My eye is more forgiving of artists who's work I know only tangentially.

Love Gary Gianni….I’m unsure I’ve ever bought a book BECAUSE of his art,
but, when he is a surprise artist in a story that needs his touch, it’s always
magical.

What did you use to ink, SQ?

(and, thank you 😊)

Nothing too fancy, just a Staedtler pigment liner pen (0.05). I've still got my training wheels on.

I'm on a strict graphite diet...
My main weapon of choice is

THIS

They have a 1.3mm lead that files down nicely to a flat
side/razor sharp side like JB taught us to do. The pencil
grip is triangular, so, you always know that one 'flip'
will change your lead point. Designed for kids, but,
they've become irreplaceable for me.

Nice work, Steven and Joe! Two different styles - both pleasing to look at!

I love the highlights SQ. I think it’s FF women for me now. Gotta do research.
JB had some beautiful alien babes in his run.

Thanks Joe. The toned-paper with Gelly Roll pen for highlighting is a wonderful "hack" if you are ever tempted to try it.

Someday, I’ll get all of my art supplies back. I had some of that stuff in
there. Life got in the way! I’ve just gotten back to the drawing life recently,
but am ringbound sketchbook only. At the moment, I’m hurting my brain
how to draw a high heeled shoe from worms eye without too much detail.
Only JB and Toth seem to do it right.
