Do you consider the Presidential Pardon, especially the use pre-emptively, as an accurance of power above the law?An I am not talking just about Trump (othe Presidents have misused it as well), but the notion of the Presidential Pardon itself. As an outsider, I find it quite odd that the Presidents have such an outstanding power.

As a Brit, i was astounded to read that Biden pardoned 5 relatives at the end of his presidency. Who has 5 convicted criminals in their family?

It's possible they were pre-emptive pardons, like with Dr. Fauci. Trying to keep the incoming people from going after them.

Yeah, there was a lot of concern (in the center-left media) and outrage (in the RWEC) about those preemptive pardons, but honestly they were probably the most clear-eyed thing Biden could do about the upcoming Trump administration. We haven't yet gotten to the show-trial point in the cycle, but there's a pretty strong likelihood that there will be something along those lines. And the idea that Biden set some kind of precedent for Trump is weird bullshit, since Trump gonna Trump no matter what.
To be clear, I don't love any expanded Executive powers, the pardon power among them. But these uses - even including the pardon of Beau - felt like the least corrupt wielding of said power.

The repugnant Tulsi Gabbard announced an "investigation" into Anthony Fauci, demonstrating that Biden was correct in regards to that particular preemptive pardon.
BTW, the COVID lab leak "theory" has been conclusively proven to the standards of right wing wackadoodooland,

There are too many conspiracy loonies in positions of power now. MTG being the poster child for these lack of coherent thought people. She will spout whatever she wants, swear at you if you dare to ask for clarification or consistency in her off the wall lies, and be just downright abusive to other politicians. Seeing what the right are posting on various platforms is like looking into another world. To them, Fauci had secret labs, which were moved to Wuhan, that released the virus. The vaccines were a control experiment that are causing massive amounts of heart attacks and decreasing the birth rate. They are still on about the whole secret pizza delivery service for kids. And countless other stories. All presented now as established fact - these aren’t things to be proved to them. For them, these have already been proven. It’s what they are fighting against. Their lord and master, Trump, can do no wrong. He is on a personal crusade to rid the world of these secret cabals who rule the world. No one will ever convince them otherwise.
THAT is the reality that we need to accept and understand. How you combat that, I have no idea.
Will we in the UK go the same way? We certainly have pockets that believe the same thing. I’m certainly seeing a lot more comments on Facebook where the virus has been proven as man made, the vaccines were a bad idea, and we are in the middle of a fight for our identity. So I think we are on the path. Hopefully we will not follow the shiny ball to stupid, but I do worry.

I've grown to believe that, as a species, our survival instinct really only works when there is a clear and imminent danger. If we find ourselves in a room where breathing becomes burdensome and painful, we'll get out of there as fast as we can because our survival instinct has kicked in. But multiple generations of people have gladly paid for the privilege to inhale addictive toxic substances, despite warnings and evidence that smoking tobacco is inherently unhealthy for us. We just aren't great at perceiving subtle threats.
But I think most people in the world today understand that something is amiss. Even as we are told again and again that things like violent crimes are at a low, that the streets are safer than ever, that illegal behaviours occur less often than ever, we still feel threatened, and that feeling overwhelms the weight of any amount of evidence to the contrary.
You could say it's a symptom of the way we consume news, and that might be true except it seems as if a lot of people don't consume news at all, and they still feel threatened. Maybe the issue is that we really are all in danger, not because of any one violent group or country, but because of the way we're choking our planet right now.
In any case, it makes sense to me from a biological standpoint that when we feel threatened, we act more conservatively. We become more tribal. We look for "stronger" leaders who act more decisively. In other words, our survival instincts are guiding us to do the very opposite of what might be best to ensure we actually do endure as a species.
It feels likely to me that we're going to end up with more MTGs in government and fewer AOCs. It's probably the reason why countries continue to skew towards totalitarianism and away from democracy. It's troubling because I don't think we have the collective willpower to change course. I feel incredibly worried for the kids living today, including my own. I can't see a way for them to avoid a lot of hardship, and it sucks because we could have prevented it but have failed at every step.

Depends on where you get your news. While what you say is 100% accurate, that’s not what Faux News reports. At all. Neither does Newsmax, the Daily Caller, The Daily Mail, The Daily Wire or The Washington Examiner to name but a few examples. That’s not what people from the center right to the far right post about on social media. There are many, many, many people for whom the above “sources” are ones they consider 100% accurate despite what they see outside their collective windows. You say “… it seems as if a lot of people don't consume news at all, and they still feel threatened” yet those that do feel threatened feel like they are reading the news just not “mainstream news”especially when it comes to them via a quick post on social media or part of a popular worldwide podcast as that hosted by Joe Rogan.
Part of the problem is those who choose to label anything they disagree with as “mainstream media”. A huge disservice to the detriment of all is the extreme distrust of well written, fact based reporting by those who purport to “speak the real truth” but are only doing so for clicks, subscriptions and likes. It’s a partisan divide created, in large part, by the emergence of Faux in the 90s but it certainly has its roots as far back as the McCarthy witch hunt era of the 50s and farther back in the yellow journalism at the turn of the last century. Read any newspaper of that time and you’ll most likely be shocked at the rampant lies and twists of truth just to sell a paper or advance the agenda of either Pulitzer or Hearst.

I just hope I am still alive to see the day the GOP - particularly the MAGA - get their comeuppance. And frankly, after Trump pardoning the Jan 6th rioters, that comeuppance should include treason charges, black sites, and taxing the everliving hell out of the 1%ers. (And I'm not talking biker gang members!)

History professors who study fascism have started to leave the country.
WE STUDY FASCISM. WE ARE LEAVING THE COUNTRY.
Germans in 1931 would wish for the warnings and conditions we have now for resisting this coming storm.
The storm brews. Hold fast.

German nationalism was rising pre WWI. Their defeat exacerbated it and led to the rise of a totalitarian state. Take that into account and they had plenty of warning pre-1931. They either ignored it or famously laughed it off. To say that they didn’t, that they were blindsided where we should not be, is being intentionally obtuse to the point of absurdity.
