Officially 50 years old this month, and thankfully, Marvel & DC have released some facsimile editions to celebrate...
From the time I first started looking-at/skimming-through/reading comics (almost at the very start of 1976, at only 3 1/2 years old), those in-house ads featuring the cover of this treasury have been burned into my brain for almost my entire life. The original edition was one of my last personal comic book Holy Grails... I never had a copy as a kid (I'm sure it would have been dogged-eared to death), and I could never find one later on during my various collecting phases (at least not in good condition and/or at an affordable price).
Thrilled to have picked-up my facsimile copy this week, and I plan on finally (FINALLY!!) pouring-over every page, panel and word. Any thoughts, recollections, nostalgia or history from the Forum?

If my 10 year old self had asked my dad for that amount of cash at that time in 1976, it better had been for an emergency! 🤣
My weekly allowance was .50 cents.
To paraphrase an old Chris Rock joke...... Allowance!?!?!? ....I was allowed to go out side. I better not had asked for a dollar or more.
But that book would had been two dollars well spent.

I looked at how Superman was inked and immideatly thought ’Neal Adams’. Its a wonderful comic. I loved it. It was an ’honest’ event book. It felt likey really wanted to give the fans something, not just grab money out of my wallet.

Mikael - are you aware that Neal redrew most of the Superman figures?Anyway, because I was in the Biz I knew this book was coming, but Marvel and DC did very low key promotion. I have often wondered how many fans walked into various newsstands and drugstores with no idea what was waiting for them. I still have my original copy, and a few years back I picked up a second copy in prime condition at a nearby antique shop. $20!

I was able to get a very nice copy of it (and Batman/Hulk) for less than $20
each back 10-15 years ago.

JB: Not at the time. He told me years later when we worked together. I have to say I miss him deeply. That book really buzzed me at the time. It felt like watching a movie, in a good way.

...still have my two vintage copies, though the one my Dad let me handle when I was 8 years old is pretty trashed at this point.

One thing that's fascinating to think about: they wanted to select a creative team that had experience working on both Superman and Spider-Man, and at that time there were only two writers, period, who had written both Spider-Man and Superman stories: Gerry Conway and Len Wein. And there were only three artists who'd drawn solo stories featuring both characters: Ross Andru, Win Mortimer, and Jim Mooney. Which of course speaks to how relatively new a character Spider-Man was at the time.

I was late to the party starting to read comics in the early '80s. But there was an issue where I saw a tiny black and white back-issue ad for this and thought it was a hoax at first! How did nobody in school tell me this existed???
