I didn't celebrate Kirk's death, but yes, I am certainly not upset that his inflamed rhetoric is out of the public sphere.

It's not just The U.S. it's society in general that is on
the decline. This last 15 years with the internet and
social media taking over.

Institutionalised murder is bad enough, but broadcasting it as entertainment is on another level entirely. Hard to imagine that coming from the Democrats, eh?

There's a wide berth between "cheering" and "not feeling bad about it".

Same goes for here - I'm not going to feel bad about a man being executed for murdering 13 people. But I won't be cheering, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to watch it.

A decent man will not greet an event like this with whoops and cheers. This is a European point of view. We're used to the trope of "Whoo-oo! Yay! Git down! Yeehaa!" following the smallest of achievements, like the successful sawing of a log blocking a road, by our admirable American cohabitants.

Would *never* want to watch a man die. Pete and Donny are sick motherfuckers and we can't be rid of them soon enough. Bring back dignity to U.S. politics, military, hell, everything.

Context.

I was at the bedside of my mother-in-law when she died. I was holding her hand, index finger extended so I could feel her pulse. I felt it stop. It was such a non-event. She was there, and then she wasn’t.

In contrast, I was with family and friends when my friend Ron died. It was at sunrise, and his hospital room faced east. Golden light flooded the whole room. I knew Ron, a working actor, would have appreciated the exit.

context is what I missed in my post. I was speaking about the public spectacle.
Death witnessed as a spectacle is anathema to me. "I want to watch him die."

Relatives, family, friends... I was in my bedroom in the family house in 2004 when my father died. I only discovered it when I ran out of fags.

I'd watched him die for 12 years. I wasn't there when he went.

A friend went off today because her friend had 2-4 weeks left. I'm cat-sitting. He had time left for her and other friends.

I'm yet to be summoned to a bedside vigil. It will be awful when it comes.
