Wow!!!!!! A lot of water under the bridge since I last read a Marvel comic. To think I was musing about Batman having three different Robins who are over 18!!! Thats nothing compared to the Wolverine family hjinks. I gave up on Wolverine when he became "James Howlett.".

So basically Damien was genetically engineered using the DNA from both Batman and Talia, correct?

++++++++++++

Yes.

Once again - the parentage of the twins in 'Sins Past' was altered by editorial. JMS was not happy about that.

And what would that have been, had JMS had his way? Peter as the father? Is it any better? Really?

Exactly.  It would have been just as bad if Peter had been their father.  The whole concept was flawed no matter who ended up being the father.

It's like some perverse looking glass world of comic characters.  When did it become so bad to have Spider-Man or Wolverine just have some good old fashioned comic book adventures?
What's the attraction with the super-hero having kids anyway? I don't mind the imaginary or parallel world type story every now and then, but this stuff makes it "real".  Real bad that is.

I was trying to figure out what Daken's name means, what is it representative of and I came to a conclusion; it's a dirty joke.

If you rearrange the letters in Daken you get Naked.

I have a hard time believing that to be intentional but on the other hand what the hell is a Daken?

And if you were given that name and twenty different pictures of different characters would you have any chance of matching name to character?

I looked at the marvel.com character bio, and apparently it means "mongrel".

That character bio, depressingly enough, has two pictures of Daken in it. In one, his claws are quite short and thin, and dark gray in colour, and apparently the one that comes out of his wrist is shorter than the other two. But wait! No, his claws are light gray, about as thick as Wolverine's and of equal length. And longer than Wolverine's.

So much for staying on model.

Daken is, indeed, Japanese for mongrel or half-breed.  It's as bad as gaigin (sp).  I prefer "Daken" means "I've run out of good ideas, by B*nd*s."

Marvel's nickname should now be "The House of Chimps Flinging Poop, Hoping You Like It."

I was just telling a friend of mine last night that except for Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, and War of Kings, I'm done with undergroudn...er...mainstream Mavel and DC comics.  This thread thas solidified my position.

Yesterday I was discussing Chris's X-MEN FOREVER book with someone, and I made the observation that upon first hearing of this title and concept, I was reminded of something Denny O'Neil said about the New Universe -- that it was basically a comicbook company going into competition with itself.

The same could be said, I suppose, of the Ultimate line, and even the Marvel Adventures line. But what intrigues me about X-F is the notion of "returning" to a point before the various kinds of madness came to define Marvel. A point with its own kind of madness, to be sure, but the fact is that if the fans will tolerate it, and if the Powers That Be at Marvel will actually let the book (and potentially others) be what it has been announced to be (something that most definitely did not happen with the Ultimate line), there could be an "oasis" in which Marvel would be free to produce the kinds of books it seems otherwise to have abandoned.

And, yes, this is me peeking past the razor wire and land mines with a tiny stirring of hope in my heart.

About X-Men - Forever: In my opinion X-F (and specially the point in the continuity chosen for its start) might be an admittance that, somewhere along the line, Marvel lost control of everything "X-related" and with that lost a lot of readers in these last years.
Maybe they tried to do it in the main line, with M-Day, by reducing the overwhelming number of mutants that spawned in these last couple of decades, but I think that fixing all those mistakes might be a task harder than antecipated and you can't just undo everything, so X-F seems the perfect solution. My opinion of course...

edit to add: It will be curious if X-F ends up selling more than the regular X books...
