I just had a brunch today in the Grand Salon of the Queen Mary, where the
first class passengers ate. It was a fun experience to wander the ornate
halls and dining room.

Do you have any recollections of riding the Queen Mary, John?

Before I was 8yo I crossed the Atlantic three times by liner, the Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and the less famous Ivernia. I have vivid memories of these crossings but unfortunately, after all these decades, I can no longer determine which memories belong to which ship!

It's a sad and frustrating moment -- and often one fraught with self-recriminations for opportunities lost -- when you realize that no one is left alive who knows parts of your own life's story.

JB, have you as the Grumpy Old Guy been able to serve as a source of family lore for any younger relatives?

No. I have 4 younger cousins with whom I’ve had no contact since I was in my late teens. If the gene pool has extended beyond them, I know not.

There’s also no one to correct me!

Thanks for the reply. I did not learn how all the different passengers
travelled on board. Do you remember how your accommodations worked?
Would you have eaten in the Queen Mary Grand Salon dining room?

We traveled third class, which was adequate but a long way from Grand.

Of course, I was 3, 5 and 7, so it all seemed grand enough to me! On the middle crossing my mother and I shared a cabin with a porthole!
