Maybe detached involvement was why the art on Legends looked so good!

“Detached involvement” isn’t a good description of my time working on LEGENDS. That was more increasing frustration and annoyance.

It seems it was pure professionalism for Legends, then, because it looks so
good.

My thanks. But, alas, I see a steady decline, issue to issue.

It’s a real shame, because John Ostrander went on to write some of the
best Star Wars comics produced.

The chief problem with LEGENDS was that DC was racing to recapture the CRISIS success, but as one editor admitted to me about halfway in, they had no idea how to do it.

It was around that time they “realized” it was about the formation of a new Justice League.

Might have been better if they’d STARTED there.

I just remember loving that first issue because you were actually at DC and seeing you draw their characters was great fun.

A Legion of Super-Heroes story could end up being your best work yet!

Unfortunately, I have too much NEGATIVE feeling for the Legion.

Rereading GENERATIONS is a bit of a history lesson. I had chosen to make it an “imaginary story”, so I could play off the constant flux of DC “continuity” in the years I covered. Unfortunately, DC had become much too self-important by then—to many fans-turned-pro replacing the Old Guard—and an “Elseworld” bullet was put on the cover.

Ironic that the same DC that had begun so loosely—Superboy could fly, early Superman couldn’t—had become so mired in its history that CRISIS became “necessary”.

To this day, your GENERATIONS Universe (if it can be labeled such) would have been the best explanation for everything post-CRISIS.

Superman - His powers and abilities practically makes him immortal.
Wonder Woman - She was created by the gods. Immortal
Batman - The Lazarus Pit solved that.

Two Green Lanterns? Two Hawkman/woman? Two Flashes? No real tweaking to their origins.

Would have solved the DC Golden/Silver Age hero problem in one fell swoop.

I don't even understand what the Elseworld bullet means since if I've
understood right, your Generations series is one parallel world in the official
DC Universe. So not an imaginary story, just something happening on
parallel universe.
