Bunch of characters charging right to left. Not a whole lot
of ways to portray that. The individual poses don’t seem
copied.

The proceeding page in X-Force was also a copy of the
proceeding page in NTT.
It wasn't just the splash, but the entire sequence.

All those 70s Kirby double page splashes are fun stuff!

This thread reminded me of Steranko's double, double page splash in Strange Tale 167. I bought the TPB and they made it a 4 page fold out (something they didn't/couldn't do in 1968). (edited for spelling)

Looking for scans for a couple of the most mind-blowing double-page spreads I'd ever seen - Dave Sim and (mostly) Gerhard, a dream sequence from Cerebus number (I think) 94. Worst case scenario, I'll dig in my longbox and shoot the original issues. 

They didn't make the transition to the trade particularly well - the original 20pp issues opened perfectly flat, while the second Church & State trade tops out over six HUNDRED pages, and there wasn't really a great solve for that. One of the risks of being a format pioneer.

Speaking of 'writing for the trade' - or in this case, drawing for the trade - it was disappointing in later issues to see those eye-popping uses of the individual issue format be reduced, in favor of its eventual collection.

One of my greatest disappointments of recent vintage was a hard over reprinting of Frank Bellamy’s astonishing HEROS THE SPARTAN series from Britain’s EAGLE tabloid. Each episode was done as the center spread of the magazine, and I was concerned that they would not tolerate conventional binding.

The publisher assured me that the volumes would open flat—he had a term for it—but when my copy arrived I found most of the center of the spreads, were disappearing into the fold.

The broad strokes, yes. Liefeld had done the same with a sequence from Miller’s RONIN.

But, as I noted previously, on this spread he did not copy specific poses.

He HAS copied some panels from you HULK run pretty faithfully. Never
knew if he just thought people wouldn’t notice or as some kind of homage
to those that came before.

I'd agree with JB: It might be better described as "inspired by". Definitely not a swipe.

I've had enough of looking at it now!

Sad thing is, swiping from better artists seems not to have taught Liefeld anything.
