What's up with Storm?  I find her legs to be too short (or look too short and stocky).

We artists sometimes use this thing called "foreshortening"....

I like the Colossus shaped dent in the wall. It cracks me up.

Yes- "foreshortening."  I get that.  I just don't think Storm looks good.  She should be tall, regal, and beautiful.  In this commission she isn't.  She is crammed in the corner and looks Puckish.  And as you alluded to, it is counterintuitive that she would be flying indoors.

I really like it when Stom looks like this:

I waited and waited, until the deadline for the pencils seemed dangerously close to being missed. Finally, I called the office and said "Look, I have to start this issue! How about if I draw Wolvering "naked" and just leave space around Jean, and Dave can add the costume and the Effect?"...

Another (pre-Internet) rumor dispelled! The story I had always heard was that you refused to draw the Fang outfit because you hated it. I had also heard that Marie Severin was the artist that drew the outfit.

I did hate the Fang outfit! But I didn't refuse to draw it -- as witness by its appearance in my first and second issues of UNCANNY.

Funny thing --- in those early days I saw my pencils redrawn by Dave Cockrum, John Romita Sr., even anonymous bullpen drones...but I don't recall being redrawn by Marie. In fact, I'm sure I've told the story of how I came not to draw the Not Ready for Prime Time Players issues of MTU, when I said, then as now, that my likenesses suck and I would do it only if Marie (a brilliant caricaturist) would ink the job. I was told flat out no way, Marie was much too busy. So Bob Hall penciled the issue.

And Marie inked it.

Beautiful piece, JB.  I love the lighting on Nightcrawler's face.  Interesting contrast to how he's so often drawn, with certain parts of his face in shadow all the time (or as a friend of mine used to call it, the "flashlight under his chin" effect).

Not that there's anything wrong with that, by the way.  If you or Dave Cockrum is drawing him, it doesn't matter to me how much of Kurt's face is or is not in shadow!

Wow...I never knew that...I always thought you were paying homage to Cockrum..

I have to agree with Charles as Storm looks clumsily drawn.  Other than that, the piece looks fairly good with some anatomical inaccuracies.  Oh well, for those with money to Byrne....
