11x17

(Edited to Add: The title of this thread comes from a
post in another thread, where I showed which parts
of the drawing were pen, which brush, the latter
indicated in RED.)

Always a treat to see a new Galactus art by JB.  I like the slightly open fingers on the left hand.  Odd, I know. Thanks for sharing.

WHOA!

Galactus is easily one of my favorite characters.

I have always loved his look and the fact that he was clearly a
Marvel 'heavy hitter', but I admit that I did not 'get' him until you
got a hold of him in your FF run.

Question for you:
In your opinion, are there (or WERE there) too many cosmic
'heavy hitters' in the Marvel universe during your tenure?

With so many Marvel characters operating on the vast cosmic
scale (The Eternals, The Beyonder, Thanos from time to time...)
it seemed to take something away from Galactus for me. Less
is more sometimes.

Also, easily my favorite Galactus moment was his going toe to
toe with the Sphinx! Watching him put a human style beat down
on one of his so-called peers was about as thrilling as comics
could get for me. Thanks for that one.

I don't know what it is you do, but you always seem to make Galactus look weary (if that's the right word to use here) - as if he has the weight of the universe on his shoulders.

Nice to see Galactus getting so much love recently.  Galactus is one of those characters that no one draws better than JB, so much so that he has become a JB character to me.

I don't see weary.  To me he has always seemed stoic, completely disinterested.  We Are all ants to him

Marvel has long suffered from an unfortunate combination of Madonna Syndrome and lazy writing. Madonna Syndrome being the problem by which one is confronted if the object is to be more shocking (or in Marvel's case, bigger) every time, and lazy writing being what happens when the quick and dirty way of saying "My guys are the best" becomes "creating" villains who are declared to be the meanest mothers in the valley, and then having the heroes tromp them.

So, even Stan and Jack kept turning up the volume -- and, alas, those who followed in their wake did not quite have the same magic. (Did the MU really need a cosmic being who looked like Whoopi Goldberg? Is the best way to defeat Galactus really by getting him drunk?*)

Ah, well…

* Anybody else see the irony in the drunk Galactus being the product of the same writer who turned Tony Stark into an alcoholic?

Weary is exactly the right word. And a little sad.
