I just picked up the new Serenity Better Days #1. I am enjoy the comics from Joss Whedon's universe and thought I would try this one.  Plus it has a great Adam Hughes cover.

As I was reading it I hit this panel:

I have adjusted the color and contrast just a bit to make it more obvious... but what is BWS doing written all over the sky?  I am guessing it is some kind of art instruction that got left in, but what is it?  And any idea how something this glaring got missed?

BTW - It is an instruction to the inker or colorist from the penciler to fill with Black With Stars.

Now, I can't help but notice all the stars inside the crescent of the moon.  Whoops.

The lack of care is astounding.

BWA-HA-HA!!!  That is priceless!!!  More reason to hate modern comic making techniques and practices.

Twice.

What would have been wrong with the "old fashioned" way…?

It's not even like its good coloring.... all of that business in the sky with the stars and glows and NOT black or even dark completely takes away from where the focus SHOULD be.

To me it looks like "look how great I am at at painting stars!!! Maybe someone will give me a job doing matte paintings".... yet could manage to notice that they left not one, but it looks like FIVE BWS

Just another example of why most comics today suck...

I like that the BWS is still there.  Funny.  Yeah, that BWS does not matcht he art in the foreground.
