Brian Hague: If so, is there then an Earth-1 Archie? Hmmm...

He's called "Jimmy Olsen."

JB:
1 - great commission
2 - thanks for posting the Adams page! love seeing any orig art i wouldnt otherwise see or even know about
3 - i can fully understand when you say you dont have the urge to draw comics anymore - i assume the time it takes may seem more like work than ever before, when what you may really want to get out is a new story. as someone else said, i too keep coming back to your comics over and over (mainly because every few years, rotationally, every series pops back up again in my brain)...and although the art has a lot to do with why, it truly is mainly the STORIES. your art contribution to the medium is vast and impactfull but the writing and story telling slightly outweighs it

Thanks for noticing. All the way back to the beginning of my career I have referred to myself as a writer who draws, rather than an artist who writes.

Either combination amounts to the same thing, tho: a storyteller.

Then may I take this opportunity to ask how you felt about your pure writing excursions, like your novels?  (You "made" me read through all the previous 2015 posts that triggered this curiosity) < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

JB - I do miss all the commissions you were posting a few years ago when you were doing them. It was something to look forward to. Loved them, thanks for posting.

Wow. Just seeing this image. Incredible!
Wonderful display of atmosphere. JB, do you use reference for a piece like this? As someone who has dabbled in art, If I was had to draw that scene, I wouldn't think of putting in those chunks of concrete blocks in the landscape or trash can. But it's perfect! Her holding the smoldering skull is inspired. How do you think of these things?

No reference, except for Miss Cynthia. Everything else comes from the dark corners of my brain.

For decades I made a conscious effort to internalize the world around me, absorbing TV, movies and real life. Eventually it got to a point where I would feel visual details slip into the “filing cabinet” in my mind.
