This is a truly disgraceful and disgusting chapter in Republican Party's ongoing sociopathic degeneracy. The way fundamentalist Christians are chortling and high-fiving en mass about abusing legal refugees to p0wn the libs once again puts to lie any claims their religion has anything to do with compassion or decency.

This is exactly who they are, David.  They're just not hiding it anymore.

‘Reverse Freedom Rides’: An echo of Martha’s Vineyard migrant flights 60 years ago

WaPo.  Subscription required. From the article:

There is one big difference between the migrant transports now and the Reverse Freedom Rides of 60 years ago.

In the 1960s, the buses were funded by anonymous people donating to private segregationist groups, which aimed to tell the North “to put up or shut up,” as one New Orleans leader said. DeSantis has not said how the flights he arranged to Martha’s Vineyard were funded, but Tex. Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has used state resources and donations for the buses. And both have been eager to take credit.

Is it now fair to say the Republican Party's top two 2024 Presidential candidates, Trump AND DeSantis, are under criminal investigations??

Unbelievable times we are living in.

Aside from the jurisdictional hodge-podge of a Texas county sheriff investigating a Florida governor over what's going on way up in Massachusetts - yikes- , the 'criminal investigation' seems more motivated over the lack of similar outrage and coverage of something that occurred in his own county over the Summer when 50 immigrants were found dead in a tractor trailer storage container.
And haven't there been busloads of thousands of immigrants bussed from Texas to New York and DC? Sort your own state out first, guy.
The border states are overwhelmed, for sure, but it doesn't help to simply bus them out to random cities across the nation. Along those same lines, tho... cities across the nation shouldn't be so quick to say 'we'll be your sanctuary' unless they're actually prepared to do so. People in need like this don't need empty promises.
50 people... and they had to call in the National Guard because, as one lady put it "we just don't have room for them". With over a million coming in every year, even those southern border states can't be expected to absorb the full brunt of it.

The Senate Rules Committee voted 14-1 to approve reforms to the Electoral Count Act, which would help prevent another effort to overturn future election results. LINK

Ted Cruz was the only NO vote.

Shit like this baffles me. Meatheads like him don’t seem to understand that
while this would seemingly keep him or his party from pulling shenanigans
after elections (see Jan 6), it also keeps THE OTHER SIDE from engaging in
shenanigans after elections.

It reminds me of when Trump was in office and the big thing in MAGAland
was getting rid of the 2-term limit on president so Trump could be in office
until he died. When I explained this also meant Obama could run again and
stay pres until he died, that made them think a little harder about it.

Term limits on the President were pushed thru by the Republicans after FDR’s unprecedented 4 elections. Kind of an FU to Harry Truman. Then, oops! Eisenhower! The Grumpy Old Pissants had screwed themselves.

So WHY exactly isn't Thomas recusing himself from the North Carolina gerrymandering case in front of SCOTUS right now?  If ever there were a case of conflict of interest, this would be it.

Any please note: this is a rhetorical question. There is no good reason. Any attempt to justify it is 'just so much chin music', to quote Woody Allen.  But I will be entertained to watch the flopsweat from heavy lifting the sheer amount of counter-logic involved, so have at it.

I remember when I was in college, I went to see a professor during office hours. On his door he had a cartoon in which a college professor was shown putting one of his students on the rack (the medieval torture device).  The professor was saying, "Mad?  Of course I'm mad!  But I have TENURE!"

Clarence Thomas makes me think of that cartoon.  If someone lacks any internal sense of professional ethics and there are zero consequences for behaving unethically, then of course they will behave unethically.
