Comic books are one of my favorite things. When I need a pick me up I reach for my comics -John Byrne’s X-Men and George Perez’s New Teen Titans. George’s talent and imagination built a world with characters and environments that were exciting and bursting with energy, just like George.

When artists, like George, pours themselves into the their creation a part of them lives on in those fabulous detailed lines and in those wonderful emotions that his characters depict. I see George in the warmth and enthusiasm of Starfire and also in the fun playful spirit of Garfield. So when I pay my respects to George I will do so by cracking open the Teen Titans and enjoying the heck out of the world he created. I’ll close it with a smile, knowing George made the world a better place for us all and that he lives on in the inspiring pages.

George was one of those rare guys, the ones who never met a stranger and greeted everyone with kindness. As a kid I wanted to draw like him, as an adult I want to act like him.

What a well lived life!

I had the fortune of meeting him many years ago during his Teen Titans run.  Wonderful person. 😢

George’s death reminds me that the people who were the Marvel I read as a kid are gone, and the Marvel I joined as a Pro is being steadily depleted.

The great thing about JB, George Perez, Neal Adams and all the other legendary artists of comics is that you guys are leaving an indelible legacy that will always be there for up and coming artists who want to strive to continue the greatness of what comics once was and can be

He was a joy to be around. At conventions you almost always overheard someone saying how wonderful it was to be around George Perez. It’s tough trying to explain to my friends and family why there is such an outpouring of love and admiration for “just a comic book artist”, but George was so welcoming , approachable and kind that you felt like he had always been you friend regardless of how much time you spent with him. The world, not just comic book fans, will miss George Perez whether they realize it or not.

A George Perez crowd scene was a thing of beauty. He was the Cecil B. DeMille of comics.

A tremendous loss.

His early AVENGERS and FANTASTIC FOUR work from the mid 70's is what jump started me on purchasing comic books monthly.

RIP

Godspeed George. Thank you for all the pleasure your art has given me through the years.

George and our host were the two artists whose work really cemented my personal love for comics in the early 80's as a youth, and I'd buy anything I saw that had their art in it.

This is one of those rare deaths that genuinely made me sad. George was one a very few artists who really impacted me as a kid when I was really getting into comics. He will be missed.

John Romita Sr. would be the elder statesman of the artists these days at  92 years old.  And Sal Buscema still lives.
