Side question: When was the first appearance of adamantium? Is that an Ultron thing that was applied to Wolverine, or was the word invented for his claws?

Ultron in Avengers. But I think Roy lifted the term from somewhere else.

The words adamant or adamantine in the English language, meaning unyielding or unusually hard, derive from Greek mythology.

For example, from Graves' The Greek Myths:

"Hermes also helped Perseus, giving him an adamantine sickle with which to cut off Medusa's head."

Taking these existing words and adding the -ium suffix common to many elements is kind of logical and there are uses in sci-fi stories that pre-date Marvel, as Brian said.

For example, this story from 1941:

(Edited to add: But in Marvel comics, it's with Ultron that it first appeared, once again as Brian says).

And somehow we have not yet seen a story where a proto-Ultron intelligence was revealed to be part of the Weapon X program... I guess that's one sin they couldn't pin on Hank Pym.

Maybe the proto-Ultron was involved with Weapon Nine!

It's clear now that Rodrigo is just prejudiced against the "suits" and is somehow unaware of or intentionally ignoring the fact that Roy Thomas himself is a creator, probably second only to Stan Lee in number of Marvel stories written or beloved characters created.

I promised myself I wouldn't interact in this particular thread no more, but I crumbled and read this.

That anybody could possibly state that Roy Thomas (!) is "probably second only" to Stan Lee in "beloved characters created" while completely ignoring the existence of a certain fellow named Jack Kirby is truly something I'd never thought I could possibly be exposed to in a comics knowledgeable context.

Now I'm out, I promise. You guys celebrate, this era is definitely your time to shine.

I lied, addendum:

The only new thing that's happened is Roy approached Disney and asked to be acknowledged as a co-reator in the credits of the Deadpool and Wolverine film.

Small thing, a detail really.

Wolverine has been on film for 25 years now. Just now, at this very moment when Wein is no longer with us and a Wolverine movie is coming out, the guy decided to approach.

Totally normal, ethical behavior. Saying that with a straight face is almost admirable in a way.

Kudos.

"Wolverine has been on film for 25 years now."

Yes, that was addressed in the article.  Prior to Logan, 20th Century Fox chose not to acknowledge comic creators in the film credits.  The Logan credits thanked many creators who worked on the stories that inspired the film, including:

Byrne
Claremont
Cockrum
Kyle
Liu
Romita
Silvestri
Thomas
Wein

Also, in the article Thomas pointed out “Wolverine was appearing in films produced by 20th Century Fox, and Marvel didn’t have involvement...Deadpool/Wolverine is a Marvel movie, so they decided to look at my claims.”
