I've been sick for several weeks. My stepson works as a server at Texas Roadhouse, caught something from a co-worker who showed up ill, and passed it on. I thought it was either an extreme cold or the flu.

Eventually I started losing stamina and gassing out doing simple things like taking the garbage out, so I made an appointment with my doctor and ended up going on St. Patrick's Day.

After drawing blood, and having an x-ray of my chest taken, I was advised to go the hospital emergency room immediately, as it was one of the worst chest x-rays he's ever seen. He told me I'd probably be in the hospital for at least 2 days.

I won't go into major details, but I was at the hospital from around 3pm to just before midnight, had several tests done, and was on a bed in an overflow area for almost 3 hours before being given medicine through an IV, two prescriptions to fill, and discharged.

The diagnosis? I have Congestive Heart Failure, lungs filled 2/3rd of the way with fluid, AND Walking Pneumonia!

I'm taking pills that are supposed to drain the liquid from my lungs when I urinate and antibiotics for the pneumonia. But I am scared to death about the CHF.

All the best - wishing you a speedy recovery.

was the heart issues a result of the virus or something they discovered during the x-ray (which may be a blessing). Forewarned is forearmed!

I wish you good health Brian!!

(there are some nasty flu virus out there this season - I got the norovirus which took me down for a week - it was horrible).

Jean, they don't know for sure what caused the heart problem. But I do have type 2 Diabetes, which could have been a contributing factor.

I have CHF too Brian.  Please feel free to message me if you want to talk anything over.  It’s a scary sounding term, but it is applied to any condition where your heart isn’t pumping enough volume of blood for the body.  There are many causes, many treatments, and lots of degrees of severity.  The antibiotics for your pneumonia should clear up half your problems.  Take care of yourself!

Sorry to hear that Brian! As others noted, thank goodness they caught it before a serious event, and hoping you have a speedy path to wellness.

Stay healthy, Brian.  At least you know what you're dealing with and can hopefully manage it.
