How are they doing an omnibus when the series ended when Byrne left?

After getting enthused about Alpha Flight via the other thread, I happened to be at the mall over the weekend. Neither Barnes & Noble nor Newberry Comics - both of which have admirably well-stocked trade sections - had it in stock. Feeling: denied.

There were post-Byrne Alpha Flight comics? Are you sure that's not a divergent timeline?

I’m torn. I really got into Mignola’s art on AF after JB left, but man, did Mantlo fuck some stuff up.

I admit I was not enthused by Mignola's artwork at all at the time but then again, I was 13 when JB left AF and I hated change.
And over the ensuing decades, I have grown consider Mignola a master in both art and narrative. I didn't even make the fun fact connection of JB and Mignola collaborating together on "Hellboy" until many years later when I said, "Oh wait a minute... Alpha Flight!"
But the narrative of changing the entire team out - no thanks. I do hope that some of the proceeds of the Omnibus can go to Mantlo's long-suffering family.

JB and Mignola made a great team - World of Krypton as well as some 'fill in' special issues of Superman (and a personal fave that was plotted by Roger Stern - issue 23 the origin of Silver Banshee).
And that Iron Man run with JRJR and the (underrated) Paul Ryan was a masterpiece. The colours alone were brilliant in the living laser issue.

That big boots Iron Man design is incredible. Right after the classic red and gold in my book.

I absolutely love the big boots Iron Man - it’s one of the armours I bought as a toy, although it was scaled back somewhat. JRJR was on fire when he drew those stories.

“ I admit I was not enthused by Mignola's artwork at all at the time but then again, I was 13 when JB left AF and I hated change.”************ Mignola has said that all the negative fan mail about how he drew superheroes for Marvel and DC convinced him to create his own characters so that he could define their look.
