There was a ventriloquist act in the 60`s with a young boy dummy and a duck called Titch and Quackers.I think it is a British rather than English thing as my mom`s family are from Northern Ireland.

Roger Stern summed it up best. He said Wolverine was the kind of guy who would use F*CK for punctuation, as in "in-f*cking-credible!" whereas Ben Grimm was the kind of guy who would actually SAY "blankety-blank". ************** I use it as punctuation, too. Except around the kids... then it's daggummed, wrassin frassin, et al.

JB: Well, of course you would know better than I. After all, I only created her.*** Was this a gag or did it really match your idea of Kitty's character? Wearing a t-shirt with "BITCH" written across the front to her first day at the Xavier School is sure a counterpoint to her scripted characterizations as a polite, cooperative (genius) teen. I wish I'd caught on at the time. I was only ten, though, and I had no idea people would actually wear "Bitch" t-shirts. I would've probably been suspended if I'd tried that at my school (least, I would've expected it).

"There was a ventriloquist act in the 60`s with a young boy dummy and a duck called Titch and Quackers.I think it is a British rather than English thing as my mom`s family are from Northern Ireland." Definitely British, not just English, since I'm not English and that's what assumed it said, when I first read it at a more innocent age. Obviously, as JB has confirmed, my assumption was wrong though.

I had no idea that Titch was British vernacular. I thought everyone who spoke English would know that word! :)

I always thought that Beast was appointed leader of the New X-Men for the Phoenix Blue Area battle. Although it would have been cool to have all the originals together for the death of Jean Grey.

JB has had fun with the Nightcrawler/Beast thing before. There is a great group shot of the team where he has places the Beast and Nightcrawler in similar poses.

My occasional "references" to the similarities between the Beast and Nightcrawler reflected a degree of annoyance on my part. When Kurt was introduced, in GSXM 1, he was about as far from Hank as it was possible to get. Kurt was definitely a "dark" character. But quite rapidly this began to disappear, as our Mr. Wagner became a light-hearted quipster, a jolly, bouncing, boisterous "elf" (ELF?!?!).* Came the revelation that he also had blue fur, and I damn near threw the offending issue across the room.I think all this is probably the main reason I had such a hard time finding a "hook" into Nightcrawler. I kept thinking Why is this guy here, and not Hank? It wasn't until very near the end of my run, in the Wendigo story, that I finally figured out what to do with him. ––– * To his credit, Roger Stern, while editor of the book, would more often than not delete the "elf" references. Like just about everybody else up at Marvel at the time, he saw nothing in Kurt that said "elf" to him. Demon, sure. Hobgoblin, you bet. Elf. . . ? Not so much!

I figured the "elf" stuff was an attempt by his teammates to make Nightcrawler feel better about himself. They wouldn't be very good friends if they were calling him a demon or a hobgoblin all the time, given his insecurities. I only remember that nickname being used in dialogue, though. I guess it would be a different story if it was showing up in narrative captions.
