Totally agree with the observations on that ad... felt the same as a kid when I read it. I think for me the biggest problem is that if you're going for sarcasm or irony (which is already misplaced as stated above given the seriousness of the story), you shouldn't also have a notoriously humorless Sentinel be the one delivering the lines.

Looking thru the recent Gallery additions this morning, and got to thinking about this one. Much discussion of late about Wolverine's "healing factor", and how absurdly it has been used in recent years. Set me to cogitating upon the scene that was the inspiration for this piece, and to realizing that scene doesn't "work" anymore. Wolverine's "healing factor" has been blown so much out of proportion that being scorched to the bone, as he was in that scene, would hardly slow him down at all.And before anyone leaps to suggest his power has "evolved" over time, let's remember the battle with the Sentinel took place in the FUTURE, years beyond any of Logan's current adventures. (Of course, that should be JAMES' current adventures, too, shouldn't it?)

Were the Bamfs ever proposed while you were on the book, JB?•• No. The Bamfs came about as a result of a fan giving Dave a homemade plush toy of Nightcrawler. Being on the "inside" in those years, it's amazing to look at the X-MEN after I departed and see how almost nothing that came to Chris' attention escaped being included in the book. The New Mutants were jokingly referred to as the "X-Babies" 'round the office, and we got the X-Babies for real. Paul Smith did a doodle of Storm with a Mohawk, and Storm got a Mohawk. A joke about Magneto becoming a teacher at the school led to Magneto becoming a teacher at the school. For a while Manattan was plastered with stickers that said "TESS ONE - X-MEN CREW" and. . . so on, and so on. . . .

Bumping this thread because I was BLOWN AWAY when I saw this at my LCS this afternoon! I visit this shop monthly but this was the first time it's been there as far as I know ( owner/commissioner wasn't there ).
I just have to say seeing commissioned art on my pc is one thing but seeing it in person? WOW. I literally stared at it for five minutes. I couldn't believe the amount of detail! I've GOT to start saving for one of my own.
Can't wait to talk to the shop owner to hear more about this piece.
Loved it!!!

I like the cover to UXM #140 also, Gundar, but it has nothing to do with this commission!
I assume you're referring to Terry Austin's cover for #142 :)
