I admire your principles, Chief.

Eric: Neal Adams, Jerry Ordway, Dan Jurgens, Brett Booth, Dave Johnson, Lee Bermejo, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez and Bruce Timm have all done 75th Anniversary variant covers for the first issue SUPERMAN UNCHAINED.

---

WOW! Impressive line up. It's Byrne's decision... but it's just too bad we won't get to see his cover in the line up. Would have been cool.

Is there a link to the other covers?

I wish that things were such that JB could have accepted DC's offer. It would
have been nice to see a 75th anniversary Superman cover drawn by him on
comic book shelves.

That's a shame.

Judging from past commissions, Superman is still a character you don't mind "etching", and it would have been Byrne Pencils & Inks on Superman for a change. No Ordway to redraw your figures.

MR BYRNE

You could always draw a cover and post it here at the JBF -- the "cover that would have been..." or "the cover that never was"   LOL

then off to eBay or something for sale.

????

I think there's a beautiful ironic ring to it.

Any of us here (or any Joe out there) other here might get to comission a Superman piece from JB (that could also get politely declined of course), but DC Comics can't, because Mr. Byrne is just not into it.

I find it kinda inspiring.

Could DC contact one of the customers to use their commission piece as a cover? Your post made me think of that question. Many of the commissions could work as covers.

??

I can't remember Ordway inking Byrne's Superman or Action Comics?

Terry Austin, Kessel, Giordano... Perez...

Edited to add:

Oh! Are you talking about those JLA issues?

I am proud that John is sticking to his princilpes and not accepting work from DC (or Marvel) and I am glad that DC was wise enough to ask JB to contribute.
I would have bought a copy with the John Byrne cover.

BUT my first thought falls along different lines...Bear with me...

Chief, I kinda feel like you OWE it to Superman to add your work to the celebration.
HE needs YOU!!!

-Your work on MOS is still iconic and forever links you to his history of course,
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: You owe it to the little kid inside of you that is still in awe of the fact that YOU'RE invited to contribute at all!
You were there for his 50th, this is his 75th, will you get the call for his 100th?

Sure this is just food for thought from some guy on the internet playing devil's advocate, but Come ON! This is Superman on his 75th anniversary.
Bottom line is I do respect your decision, but I would love it if you took Trevor's advice and maybe post your own sketch here on the JBF so we can have our own celebration thread for Superman's big event.

Well I would have loved to see a new Superman cover but gotta stand
behind JB and his decisisons. We always have the commissions we
can go look at.
