Have you seen the Fan Fic section? Or the Sports, Movies, TV, Star Wars, Star Trek and Music sections? This thread is politically charged, but not the entire website by a long shot. ======= Of course I've seen them. Unfortunately, Sports, Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, and other films and television are littered with messages that we must raise up a particular group and let them put their foot on the throat of another, because well, they had it coming. So, our entertainment is aping a good chunk of people who believe trading one oppression for another. As for the main forum. There are 12 active topics from the last week. 5 of them are political. And again, half of the forum has left. But it's ok, I'm sure the guy who can't remember the Pledge of Allegiance, will be better candidate.

As opposed to the guy who wants to betray America's right to vote and have it counted? The guy who won't commit to a peaceful transfer of power and talks of staying for at least a third term? Is it the political talk you don't like, or the that the politics are against Trunp?

Over the last four years, HALF of the forums membership has been made to feel uncomfortable and driven away. |

That's fucking bullshit. I've been on multiple forums, and they ALL are shrinking. A forum like this with active participants is a rarity. Most people don't rely on forums anymore. They go to Reddit, Facebook, Insta, Twitter, etc. I think younger Millennials and Gen Zers will look at you crosseyed if you ask them to sign up for a forum.
I mean it's fucking ridiculous to suggest that half of the membership left over political threads. No one is actively deleting their membership. Most of those memberships are people who signed up once for whatever reason and never come back again. This forum auto-deletes after a period of not signing in, and checking the political threads to be made "uncomfortable and driven away" would prevent that. This is some weird-ass confirmation bias going on.
QUOTE:
I look at the Democrats and their support for Antifa and BLM, both organizations self proclaiming to be followers of Marxism. |

Neither of these are organizations. They are loose, decentralized movements devoted to opposing fascism and radicalized violence and police brutality against black people respectively. Are there Marxists in those movements? Sure. So what?

I look at the lock down still going on in California and the mass exodus of people from that state. |

COVID is rising in 21 states. We've never had a coherent national strategy in dealing with it, and the country as a whole has been half-assing it. As someone who lives in California, I feel for the restaurants and small businesses impacted by the restrictions, as well as the parents who struggle with home schooling and working, but for me, having to wear a mask and eat outside on a patio seem a necessary sacrifice with the alternative being that much more people would die than the 200+k Americans who have died already.
As for the migration out of California, that's driven largely by the inflated home prices, which I blame on the Libertarian baby, Prop 13. It discourages older homeowners from selling their homes, encourages property holders to hold on to vacant lots, and encourages local government to develop retail properties which bring in sales tax revenue over residential. The other half of that is NIMBYism on all sides with regard to building affordable housing.

I fear Facists taking control, but I think many of you better look to your side of the aisle for the current problems. Trump isn't the savior many make him out to be and he isn't the devil you'd think him to be either. He can be both an idiot and a criminal mastermind. You have to make up your mind. |
|
|
Pretty sure the consensus among the Trump critics in these threads is that he's an idiot. And a criminal. But not a mastermind.

And many of the political threads are initiated by our host. So maybe take it up with him?

Have to admit that Trump's plan for stealing this election is brilliant.
Crippling US postal service, convincing his supporters to vote in person because they are doing a "great" job handling the Covid-19 epidemic, and now installing a Supreme Court judge and thus insuring they will rule in his favour to stop counting mail-in ballots.
It looks like he has this election completely sown-up and that's not even counting on Russia's (improved?) Ability to hack into the US voting system.

This is the line that jumped out at me. So what? Followers of Marxism have murdered more people in the 20th century than followers of Fascism could ever dream of. Both are abhorrent philosophies with very little difference between them yet one is tolerated and the other is condemned. Bizarre.

What's bizarre is my pointing out a fallacy of division, and you drawing a whole bunch of weird conclusions from it.

Didn’t draw any conclusions at all. Just thought it was a strange statement to make.

The suggestion was that Antifa and BLM were Marxist organizations. They are not. There are individuals within those movements that might identify as Marxist. That doesn't make them Marxist movements.

Exactly. It was the "so what" that caught my attention. You don't want people like that associated with anything. Just like people don't want Nazis associated with their organizations as well.

@Neil - “Just like you don’t want Nazis associated with their organizations as well.”
Dude. Have you met the Republican Party in 2020? They RELY on an association with Nazis just to stir up votes!
Since when is being ANTI FASCIST a bad thing?
The GOP (FOXNews, Trump and his flunkies, and other bullshit spreaders) screams that BLM and Antifa are BAD....and eventually people assume its true. Tell a person they have a tail often enough, for long enough and eventually they’ll start turning around to look for it.
We should ALL be Antifa. We fought a whole fucking world war to prove the point.
