I've been pretty liberal with superlatives, responding to Johns work. Today's page is an amazing page. Like, stop-dead-in-your-tracks, full on smack-in-the-face amazement.

Wow.

Mr Byrne - last updates to your "HUH?" replies of my post of 9/11.

The earthen creature looked like Spragg the Living Hill/Mountain. As memory serves, you used him in a She-Hulk story. I thought he was overdue for a reappearance. Well, not really... but you do mine that Marvel history!

In the fourth panel, it looks to me as if the sentinel has a woman's mouth, and I thought this might be a new version of sentinel. Customarily, I think of sentinels with "mouths" as rectangular openings, through which their voices come through.

That's what I saw. I surely could be mistaken. I thought that's why I'd ask.

Great. Now I am fearing for the well being of a boy and his mom I have only seen in one panel to date. Dang those Sentinels!

The faces of the mother and child are very distinctive.  Love all the details. I see they are religious in that household. ;-)

The Sentinels were fighting a rock menace created by a mutant source located within a hut.

Doesn't exactly scream Spragg the Living Mountain.

This is really another pulse pounding issue the art is great as usual, I have to say with your art continues to get better with each issue, at this rate I expect the final issue to be mind blowing!

Major thanks to you for these entertaining tales and inspiring artwork, I tip my virtual hat to you sir.

Oh, I'm a bit disappointed! After the use of Willie Evans, I thought the mutant that the Sentinels were going to attack was the original Caliban because of Mr.Byrne's suggestion for his power.

Fascinating and fabulous woman's face on the last panel (p.9). Don't know why, but it makes me think at Mona Lisa.

Over the work on the faces, the backgrounds of all the pages of this episode are unbelievable.

The pacing of this story is awesome, JB.... and the X-Men haven't even shown up yet!!! I love your use of the Sentinels in the past few issues and look forward to seeing where this leads.... and did I mention the pleasure of seeing your beautifully detailed pencils?? (You continually outdo yourself!!)

-C!

Wow!

That panel of the Sentinel scanning Carla's room shows a technique that I've seen you use since your very early days (using outines for figures for dramatic effect - I'm probably not describing that properly). It gave us the opportunity over the years to see your work shine under heavy-handed inkers (I remember a similar technique being used in MARVEL PREMEIRE #25 during Angar The Screamer's hallucination). I don't recall ever seeing any other artist use this technique. Was there a particular artist that influenced you with this?

JB -I wanted to tell you that you have inspired me to try drawing some stuff again (I'm 50 now and haven't since probably my mid-twenties).

I was never particularly good, but I feel like trying anyway.  So thanks for the inspiration...
